About Me

Markus relaxing at the end of a day's shoot.

Welcome to the second WEB site in the “profi” series. The two loves in my professional life now have a presence and a voice in the Internet. This and the sister WEB site (profiPhotos.com) were born out of my love and passion for the visuals. While my first site focuses on the still image, here it is all about the moving image.

I am planning this site to be a vehicle where I can share with others my passion for moving pictures. This will take form in the presenting of completed projects, tips and tricks in 3D Animation, After Effects, Editing work flows and updates on current productions.

I am the kind of individual who knows that you can always learn something new. A short time ago, I completed a Certificate course at the Journalistenakademie in Munich. One of the key lessons I learned is the importance in telling a “good”, compelling story. I learned this not only from a few good instructors but from my classmates as well.

Apart from reading a lot of books on Film Making, Editing, Lighting, Special Effects, etc., I have attended courses in Film Screenplay writing, Film Production, 3D Modelling and Animation at Ryerson Polytechnical Institute and the University of Toronto. My “self education” is ongoing as I strive for a measurable level of perfection in my craft.A screen shot from the Wasservogel Premiere project.

I feel equally comfortable behind the camera, in front of it, or working on the post production aspects of the project. For me, it is always a magical moment when a few shots, properly connected and mixed with sound and music develops into a film. A new entity is born which takes on a life of it’s own. In that moment, you realize all the long hours and hard work you put into the project were worth it.

A short list of related tools and cameras that I enjoy using;

  • HD Cameras – Canon XHA1, Sony Z1, Canon ….
  • Sony Digital Betacam Camera
  • Adobe Master Collection CS4 – Photoshop, Premiere, After Effects
  • AVID Media Composer
  • Samplitude (a sound engineer’s dream tool)
  • Autodesk Maya (formerly Alias|Wavefront)
  • Adobe Lightroom (a photographer’s best friend)
  • Microsoft Office Suite

Here’s a small collection of photos where I’m “on the job”. Click on the small image to see a larger version of the photo.
Changing the perspective keeps the shots interesting (Eisbach in Munich). On location with Sarah and her interview at Eisbach in Munich. An After Effects screen shot of the Making of Probe project. On location at Eisbach in Munich. The water I was standing in was just a few degress above freezing! Filming a breath taking still lake at Königsee, Germany.
The interview with F. Schröther in the Wasservogel film is a wrap. On location at KönigSee in Germany - here I'm getting a few shots of a babbling brook. During the filming of the Wasservogel festival we had to move quickly to stay ahead of the parade. From a high vantage point, I filmed the Königsee tour boats going in and out of the harbour.
So if you’re looking for a creative, thinking individual for your next project leave me a message at the Email address below. Alternatively, you can send me a message using the Comments form below – a message left there will also end up in my “inbox”.
